Masque: A Musical Revel – Staged Reading of Act I Presented at The Shakespeare Forum January 26, 2025 – New York, NY
Masque: A Musical Revel comes to life in a special staged reading of Act I at The Shakespeare Forum, who generously serve as benefactor by providing their space. A cast of 11 performers presents this work-in-progress, offering audiences a first chance to experience the developing script and score.
Co-created by composer Jerico DeAngelo and playwright Patrick Thomas McCarthy, Masque is a macabre rock-comedy musical inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death. Blending dark spectacle, mythic imagery, and sharp social commentary, the work explores the masks we wear, the fears that divide us, and the essence waiting to be revealed beneath.
This reading offers a rare preview of a musical still in development, performed with the raw energy of an ensemble cast unveiling new material. Music, dialogue, and character dynamics unfold together in this early incarnation of a theatrical project that continues to evolve toward full production.
